Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting jointly to the Manager, International Sponsored Research and to the Manager, Contracts and Agreements (50/50), the Research Contracts and Agreements Officer is responsible for reviewing and drafting national and international contracts and agreements. The incumbent is responsible for increasing the number and dollar value of successful international and national contracts, grants and agreements year over year and for providing expert advice and guidance to faculty in the preparation and management of research agreements.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Effectively convey excellent communication skills – both verbal and written – in order to work with researchers while reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts and agreements.
• Strong editorial and documentation skills especially in relation to technical documents.
• Experience in fostering effective communication within and among groups.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously while being prepared to work under deadline pressures.
• Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills; Incorporate excellent business and analytical skills to assess risks and maximize returns to Carleton
• Solid computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet and database software, internet skills and ability to use visualization tools.
• Detail oriented, resourceful, innovative, flexible, accessible.
• Sensitivity to multi-cultural contexts and associated impacts on terms and conditions.
• Function at a high level of responsiveness and effectiveness within a complex, fast-paced office environment.
• Work with quick turnaround times, and take initiative and independence in carrying out project work.


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Honours undergraduate degree in business administration, law or a related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the development of research proposals, publications, grant applications and/or contracts, including project logistics and budget development.

Assets:
• A graduate degree in a research discipline
• A solid background in working in academic environments at the post-secondary level

Health and Safety Requirements

This position is regularly required to work on campus in person. In the event of a public health emergency or a health and safety issue, it is possible that you may be required to work temporarily remotely due to public health orders, directives and/or health and safety requirements. If this happens, you will work with your direct manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. You are required to follow all University policies and directives, including to set up a safe and confidential workspace in a remote location and ensure all Carleton property (intellectual and other) is safeguarded. If required to work remotely, you will be notified by your manager when working full time physically onsite will resume.
