Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Executive Assistant to the Vice-President, the position is responsible to implement and evaluate the strategic digital communications, public relations, marketing, social media, and technical writing needs of the Office of the Vice-President (Research and International).


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Superior planning skills; understands critical path, sets priorities and meets timelines.
• Superior ability to multi-task.
• Superior organizational and administrative skills (accurate, detailed and complete).
• Excellent interpersonal skills; works well with individuals at all levels within an organization.
• Must have good oral communication skills, excellent mastery of the written English language, reading and basic analytical skills to clearly impart the concepts and areas involved pertaining to research in the preparation of correspondence. This work also requires an excellent master of the written English language in a view of editing nominations written by academics for submission. The goal of the editing being to improve the quality of the written language and the clarity of ideas.
• Excellent skills in use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint Outlook, the Adobe Creative suite as well as construction of online registration systems.
• Strong professionalism, tact and diplomacy; able to remain calm and with a professional demeanor under pressure.
• Strong customer service ethic and high expectation for quality.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Creative thinker for outreach; think “outside the box” – wanting improvement year over year.
• Self-motivated.
• Able to work both independently and within a team environment.
• Understands financials concepts, maintains financial records and tracks expenses to budget.
• International Experience and cross-cultural expertise.
• Awareness of diplomatic protocol.


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Honors undergraduate university degree in Communications, Journalism or English or related degree.
• Minimum of four years’ of experience in communication type activities including written content, social media, web content, presentations and reports for an external audience, preferably in an academic setting.
• Experience should include editing/proofreading, knowledge and development of nominations of honours and distinctions (including honorary doctorates).

Health and Safety Requirements

This position is regularly required to work on campus in person. In the event of a public health emergency or a health and safety issue, it is possible that you may be required to work temporarily remotely due to public health orders, directives and/or health and safety requirements. If this happens, you will work with your direct manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. You are required to follow all University policies and directives, including to set up a safe and confidential workspace in a remote location and ensure all Carleton property (intellectual and other) is safeguarded. If required to work remotely, you will be notified by your manager when working full time physically onsite will resume.
