Position Summary:
This Research Associate position is attached to TRANSFORM: Engaging with Young People for Social Change a multi-year project led by the Participatory Cultures Lab/Institute of Human Development and Well-being in the Faculty of Education, McGill University. Situating young people as critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders in disrupting gender norms, TRANSFORM brings together more than 36 researchers from 15 partner universities and 10 national and international NGOs as partners to focus on youth-led participatory and transformative methodologies to address gender-transformation. The Research Associate will work closely with the co-directors of Transform to drive the research agenda. They will also play a key role in the planning and implementation of fieldwork and training and will be involved in knowledge mobilization initiatives throughout the project lifespan. This position falls under the AMURE Collective Agreement .


Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a social science-related area with a strong background in qualitative and arts-based research and especially in participatory visual methodologies; feminist, gender and intersectionality studies; youth engagement and youth knowledge mobilization; and research related to environmental and climate issues. They should have an extensive background working in Global South contexts and especially in collaborating with and supporting the work of local and International NGOs. The candidate should demonstrate strong experience developing successful funding proposals for federal and provincial research funders (such as SSHRC and FRQSC) as well as for international development funding agencies (such as Global Affairs Canada and International Development Research Center). They should have extensive experience with the research protocols of the Tri-Agencies, as well as with knowledge mobilization strategies related to visual methodologies (e.g. art exhibitions, guidebooks and toolkits, and video productions). Preferred candidates will demonstrate experience supporting interdisciplinary partnership research in the area of youth engagement and some language proficiency relevant for proposed field sites. A background working with and for young people in a variety of Canadian contexts is also an asset. The successful applicant will have at least 5 years of post PhD experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, develop, and expand partnerships attached to TRANSFORM (implementing partners, community partners).

  • Identify funding opportunities and develop funding proposals to expand the reach of TRANSFORM.

  • Responsible for or oversee ethics and data management.

  • Support the research team in documenting and studying the work of the partnership.

  • Participate in data analysis and knowledge mobilization across sites.

  • Write and edit a variety of reports and proposals.

  • Identify and develop training and knowledge mobilization opportunities for TRANSFORM youth and partners.

  • Language: French and English (Spanish and/or Portuguese an asset).
