Job Summary

The position will support routine tasks related to recruitment and participant visits for sexually transmitted infections (STI) research. The position will part of a STI research team led by Physician Lead of the Provincial HIV/STI Program at the Clinical Prevention Services, British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (CPS, BCCDC).


Organizational Status
The incumbent will report to the Physician Lead of the Provincial HIV/STI Program, CPS, BCCDC.
Work Performed

  • Carries out tasks related to research study visits including appointment scheduling, reminder calls, set-up of examination rooms
  • Assists with routine tasks in data collection, data entry and data queries following data management procedures
  • Assist with sample collection, processing and documentation
  • Support recruitment outreach activities in the community
  • Attend team meetings as needed
  • Support other tasks as needed

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors made could influence the ability of researchers and staff to meet critical deadlines, as well as compromise the results of research projects, and therefore impact the credibility of the research team. Errors in performance of the above-related duties could have a significant impact on the effectiveness, image, reputation and financial status of the Principal Investigator, the department and the university.

Decision Making/Accountability:

Works within well defined guidelines and procedures, but exercises judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion; new or unusual problems are referred to supervisor.

Supervision Received

Works under direct supervision in accordance with detailed oral or written instructions; routine

duties are carried out under general supervision

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with health research
  • Experience with clinical trials an asset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion and safeguard confidentiality
  • Comfort using MS Office software (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel) and videoconference application (e.g., Zoom)
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
