JOB SUMMARY

This is a part-time research position that will provide general administrative and research-oriented support to the project “Acceptability, usability, and credibility of an online self-management tool for concussion rehabilitation: MyGuide Concussion -Teen Edition” under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Jacqueline Purtzki (UBC) and Dr. Molly Cairncross (Simon Fraser University).

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

The successful candidate will report directly to Dr. Purtzki, and will work in collaboratively and collegial fashion with project team members to meet project goals and objectives.

The successful candidate will work in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia.

WORK PERFORMED

Work performed will include (but is not exclusive to):

  • Developing and implementing research protocols including study design and tool development, and leading the data collection, management and analysis for all studies
  • Preparing, submitting and managing ethics applications through the UBC RISe system
  • Developing informed consent forms in consultation with PI and REB.
  • Ensure that all aspects of study are performed within International Conference on Harmonization (ICH), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Tri-Council guidelines.
  • Assists in writing grant applications, research budgets and academic manuscripts, presentations and posters.
  • Ensure appropriate keeping of research records; Collect and coordinate relevant grant information, research budgets, statistics and CVs.
  • Maintaining and updating databases, lists and reports
  • Oversees study progress and timelines, and prepares reports for granting agencies
  • Maintaining relationships with study partners and relevant stakeholders
  • Serve as a representative at potential research meetings with outside institutions, academia and other research groups

CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR
The incumbent is required to conduct all activities in an ethical manner. Patient confidentiality must be respected when dealing with research data. Errors made could cause the ethics approval to be withdrawn, which would stop the project. Errors could influence the ability of research staff to meet critical deadlines, as well as compromise the results of the research project, and therefore affect the credibility of the investigators and the Department.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The Research Assistant reports directly to Dr. Purtzki (UBC), and work with other co-principal investigators (Dr. Cairncross, SFU).  This individual will be expected to work independently in accordance with research protocol; and exercise initiative and judgement in performing all work-related function.

SUPERVISION GIVEN

The Research Assistant will be responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of a Tech 2 Research Assistant, summer students and volunteers as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in health discipline (e.g., psychology). Experience in clinical research, as investigator, coordinator, administrator, or research assistant. Word processing, data management, basic (or advanced) statistical skills, excellent communicator, writing skills, excellent organizational skills is an asset. Must be able to work independently, and participate in a collegial manner with a clinical team. Position requires ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, with ability to prioritize workload.
