Job Summary
To assist with tasks related to research activities within Professor Ryan Ziels’ research group.  https://emberrlab.civil.ubc.ca/
Organizational Status
The Research Assistant reports to the Professor in-charge, Ryan Ziels, and interacts with graduate students and other research assistants in the team.
Work Performed

  • Analyzing genomic, proteomic, transcriptomic datasets using standard bioinformatics software
  • Assists graduate students in laboratory testing, when required
  • Conducts laboratory experiments, collect data and perform required chemical analyses.
  • Visualizing data by plotting in R software
  • Assists in analyzing and recording data and writing manuscripts
  • Assists in responding to peer reviewer comments and revising manuscripts
  • Maintain reproducible computational workflows (e.g. ‘markdowns’) of produced code.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors in performing tasks will require repetition of these (with identified errors corrected). The outputs of all tasks will be checked by the Professor-in-charge; hence, consequence of error is low.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A MASc degree in Chemical, Civil or Environmental Engineering or Genome Science and Technology
