This is a part-time temporary contract at approx 35% per week for 6 months.

This offer is conditional upon successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.

This position is located within a health-care facility, therefore, the successful candidate will be required to provide verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by a provincial health mandate.

Job Summary
The Research Assistant will provide support with recruitment, data analysis and write up of a project examining the psychological response to the loss of a loved one. There will be opportunity to conduct both quantitative and qualitative data analysis.

This is a part-time temporary contract at approx 35% per week for 6 months.
Organizational Status
The Research Assistant reports to Dr. Clare Killikelly directly.
Work Performed

• Assisting with project planning in collaboration with Dr Killikelly, including developing study protocols and material for example an interview schedule for focus groups, preparing consent forms and a timeline for project activities.

• Assisting with participants' recruitment and co-conducting the focus groups with Dr Killikelly. Recruitment methods familiar to psychological research will be used included recruitment through the UBC human subject pool, UBC student email lists, student organizations, and wider community organizations such as community centres, language schools or libraries. Networking with community leaders, preparing fliers, study pamphlets, and preparing a short presentation on the research project will be expected.

• Assisting with the statistical data analysis and the write up of peer reviewed manuscripts

• Utilizing standard techniques and protocols performs various technical tasks, e.g. exploring the use of technology such as digital symptom tracking (experience sampling methods), integrating text based messaging and other mobile app technology for the assessment and treatment of prolonged grief disorder

• Carrying out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Data safety and security principles of BC and UBC must be adhered to. Procedures for mishandling of confidential data could include legal proceedings.

This position will be responsible for access, collection, use and disclosure of personal information in accordance with the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RSBC 1996) and other UBC privacy and security policies. The position requires the employee to work under strict confidentiality requirements; internal procedures and policies to protect personal information must be followed and adherence to these requirements will be regularly reviewed by the employer.

Supervision Received
The candidate will be supervised by Dr. Clare Killikelly at the Department of Psychiatry. Weekly supervision for the duration of the position will be offered.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Psychology or related field would be an asset

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a fluent command of written and spoken English

• Strong skills in statistical analysis using SPSS or R

• Experience with recruiting participants in the field of mental health

• Experience conducting focus groups

• Experience sampling methodology

• Experience writing publications

• Experience working in the field of mental health

• Experience with qualitative methods would be an asset, e.g. focus groups, thematic analysis

• Experience and interest in working with mobile apps and learning app development and programming desirable
