JOB SUMMARY

This Research Assistant will provide support to a research study titled, “Acceptability, usability, and credibility of an online self-management tool for concussion rehabilitation: MyGuide Concussion -Teen Edition” under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Jacqueline Purtzki (UBC) and Dr. Molly Cairncross (Simon Fraser University).  Responsibilities will include conducting submitting ethics amendments, participant recruitment, participant screening for eligibility, participant enrollment, data collection, data analysis, and end of grant knowledge translation (e.g., writing reports and publications, preparing social media posts). The qualified candidate is expected to work approximately 10 hours per week for the duration of the funding period.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

The Research Assistant will support the project “Acceptability, usability, and credibility of an online self-management tool for concussion rehabilitation: MyGuide Concussion -Teen Edition” under the direction of Dr. Purtzki, the principal investigator and with the mentorship of Dr. Cairncross, the co-principal investigator.

WORK PERFORMED

Work performed will include, but is not limited to:

  • Support the research project by obtaining participant consent, conducting data collection, and performing data entry.

  • Familiarity with database software such as REDCap, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and statistical software packages such as SPSS, SAS, Stata, or R.

  • Under guidance, assist in the creation of methods sections for research manuscripts.

  • Assist with the submission of ethics applications.

  • Conducting computerized literature searches, reviewing articles, and compiling annotated bibliographies using software programs such as EndNote or RefWorks.

  • Preparing research documents, including posters, presentations, and quarterly reports.

  • Performing other related duties as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Research Assistant will be mentored by the principal investigators.

SUPERVISION GIVEN

Work collaboratively with, and provide instruction and support to, undergraduate students working on the project.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline preferred. Ability to exercise discretion when handling sensitive or confidential patient information. High degree of computer literacy with the ability to use word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, electronic mail applications, and the internet (on PC and Mac OS). Experience with project evaluation, database management, online literature searches and web-based applications. Superior organizational and time management skills. Effective scientific writing, oral and written communication, inter-personal, and multi-tasking skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, for both academic and lay audiences. Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment. Attentive to detail, with the ability to work efficiently and accurately.
