The project explores the experiences of Black-immigrant youth in the Canadian education System. Under the supervision of the research supervisor, the research assistant will benefit from the opportunities to learn and receive mentorship on diverse educational research methodologies and techniques. The RA assignment will be for 5 hour/week for 6 weeks.

The start date of the research is April 3, and the end will be June 30, 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The research assistants will be responsible for:

  • Conduct research and collect data through, library research, structured interviews or other project specific methodology.
  • Contribute to a scoping review study.
  • Contribute to a qualitative and participatory study.
  • Interprets, synthesizes and analyzes data.
  • Schedule, organize and report on status of research activities.
  • Write and edit materials for publication and presentation.
  • Meet with research supervisor on regular basis to maintain ongoing communication regarding the quality of the assistant’s performance.
  • Perform other related duties as required the research supervisor.

Qualifications: Education/Experience

Current enrolment in the undergraduate or graduate studies programs with an excellent academic standing. Experience and interest in one or more of the following fields is desirable; Anthropology Black/ African Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, Sociology or related disciplines.

Skills/Abilities

The ideal candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills to discuss and document research progress. Ability to work independently or with minimum supervision, excellent problem-solving skills and ability to address technical and methodological issues that arise during the research. Strong organization and interpersonal skills to work in a team.
