Primary Purpose: To support a single-site clinical trial within the Department of Anesthesiology, coordinating with multiple departments and ensuring the smooth execution of research protocols.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Anesthesiology Research Team, the Research Assistant will assist in the completion of departmental research projects. No guaranteed hours, but up to approximately 10 hours/week for a 12-month period.
The Research Assistant will report directly to Dr Peter Hedlin, Clinical Scientist, and collaborate closely with various stakeholders involved in the clinical trial.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities: The typical duties in the position will vary depending on participant recruitment. The key responsibilities for this position are:
- Obtain informed consent from prospective research participants.
- Conduct data collection including completing of case report forms, administration of questionnaires/assessments, and chart review.
- Manage data by entering it into RedCap, ensuring secure storage of data and maintaining confidentiality of records.
- Perform in-person and telephone follow up with participants both during hospital stay and post-op.
- Liaise effective with Sunnybrook, the host site of the study, to ensure seamless coordination.
Education: Applicants should have completed at least an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Community Health and Epidemiology, Health Sciences, or a related field from a recognized university.
Experience: Experience in a clinical research environment and data collection is critical. The individual is expected to be well organized with attention to detail and to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Skills: Proficiency in conducting informed consent, qualitative data collection and data management. Candidates should exhibit professional maturity, ability to take initiative and work independently, and demonstrate a high level of organization and strong communication skills.
