Department of Biology
We are committed to advancing the understanding and preservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services. As part of our efforts, we collaborate with the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) to implement crucial projects that support global environmental sustainability.
About - The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is an independent intergovernmental body established by States to strengthen the science-policy interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, long-term human well-being and sustainable development. It was established in Panama City, on 21 April 2012 by 94 Governments. It is not a United Nations body. However, at the request of the IPBES Plenary and with the authorization of the UNEP Governing Council in 2013, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) provides secretariat services to IPBES. Primary responsibilities:
Draft and present the action plan for the Project Cooperation Agreement according to the schedule proposed by the Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
Identify and manage opportunities for communication and advocacy with strategic actors or scenarios at the global, regional, and local levels to increase the impact and utility of the assessment.
Supervise staff hired for the implementation of the project and guarantee compliance with the activities that lead to the execution of the agreed products.
Plan and participate in workshops and meetings for the assessment.
Collaborate with the IPBES Secretariat and provide regular feedback to the Secretariat on the progress of the assessment report.
Draft final report on Technical Support Unit (TSU) activities in accordance with the criteria, guidelines and scope of the unit’s activities.
Qualifying skills: -
Bachelor's Degree 3 Years Related Experience in biological or environmental science, preferred.
Experience in writing, editing, and proofreading scientific documents (articles, reports).
Experience collaborating with small and large teams.
Strong knowledge and experience with international processes and organizations such as the Convention on Biological Diversity, and IPBES.
Ability to collect and synthesize content for various audiences.
Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and ability to effectively interact with a large number of stakeholders from industry, government and academia.
Excellent planning and multi-tasking skills.
Experience managing a team.
Experience with effectively handling competing deadlines.
Comfort with computer technologies including document sharing applications and video conferencing.
Energetic can-do attitude and great "people skills".
Fluency in English, with strong communication skills. Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4.
