The Goping lab has a position available for a postdoctoral fellow for one year with the possiblity of extension. We are looking for person with the skills, enthusiasm, and commitment to conduct rigorous scientific studies in the area of breast cancer research. The candidate will play a key role in a multidisciplinary team project that involves generation and molecular characterization of breast cancer Patient Derived Organoids (PDOs). PDOs are generated from an individual patient tumor and are cultured as 3D organoids. The candidate will use PDO culture models to evaluate Patient/PDO drug sensitivity and use next-generation-sequencing to identify mechanisms of resistance. These studies will provide valuable insight on PDO potential as precision health tools. The position provides opportunities for self-directed learning and possible leadership roles within an exciting and supportive multidisciplinary research team.
We are looking for a person who is a motivated self-starter and a team player. This individual enjoys challenges. They are both independent and collaborative. The successful candidate will be responsible for PDO generation and extensive molecular/cellular characterization
Duties
- Key role in generating PDOs from primary breast cancer patient samples in collaboration with other team members
- Independently responsible for morphological characterization of tissue samples and PDOs by microscopic methods paired to live cell imaging, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry
- Independently responsible for drug-response phenotyping of PDOs and biochemical and cell-based characterization
- Key role in facilitating molecular characterization of PDOs (whole-genome sequencing and RNA-sequencing)
- Independently responsible for data analysis, statistical analysis, data presentation
- Key role in organizing resources and collaborating with team members
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or related discipline
- Extensive expertise in cell biology methods (cell culture and related analytical methods, microscopy)
- Expertise in biochemistry methods (molecular biology, protein analysis)
- Expertise in data analysis and statistics
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Strong independent research skills and also thrives in a collaborative environment
- Motivated to learn and help drive breast cancer research projects with translational potential
