Position

Alberta Health Services (AHS), in partnership withThe University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry) invites applicants to apply for a clinical positionwithin the clinical Department of Child Health and Division of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine.

The successful applicant will join eight academic pediatric respirologistsproviding a full spectrum of clinical respiratory medicine services. In addition to clinical care, the division is active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has a fully accredited Pediatric respirology subspecialty-training program through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The division also has an active basic and clinical science research program, collaborating locally, nationally, and internationally.

Responsibilities

This position is a 1.0 full-time equivalent, and will be comprised of approximately

60% clinical service with a focus on lung transplant including

• inpatient pediatric respiratory medicine consultation,
• coverage of patients admitted under pediatric respiratory medicine,
• evening or weekend call for pediatric respiratory medicine,
• bronchoscopy for pediatric respiratory medicine patients, pulmonary function testing interpretation for pediatric respiratory medicine patients, outpatient service for patients referred for pediatric respiratory medicine and
• pediatric respiratory medicine consultation for patients in the emergency department as required.
• Lung transplant clinical coverage will include covering new transplant consults, providing shared-care for lung transplant recipients (with the intensive care and pedsresp ward team), and out-patient coverage for post-lung transplant patients. The Contractor will participate in the after-hours on-call schedule in accordance with the requirements of the Arrangement.

40% academic pursuits may include:

• contributions to education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels are expected from all faculty.
• teaching the next generation of health care professionals about conditions and illnesses that are treatable by demonstrating interventions through clinical teaching, and supporting the learning of trainee physicians.
• Administrative/leadership engaging the Contractor and/or Participating Physician in community outreach by providing medical expertise to health care planning and policy, and the continuous improvement of clinical care and academia.
• research, the Contractor and/or Participating Physician will aid in bringing innovations into clinical and academic practice and generating new knowledge that can lead to the development of further new innovation

Interested applicants must hold an MD and must have completed a subspecialty residency in Pediatric Respirology, and be certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Pediatric Respirology).. Additional training in lung transplant and/or recent experience caring for pediatric lung transplant patients are considered assets.

Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be based on the income scale of a competitive and highly successful academic alternate funding plan.
