Job Summary
Reporting to the Shop Supervisor (Carpentry) or a Zone Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for all paint-related work on the University campus.
Key Responsibilities
  • Performs all general maintenance and renovation assignments related to the painting trade
  • Performs repairs to different surfaces such as wood, plaster, drywall, etc.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations
  • Maintains a clean work environment
  • Performs other duties as required
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus. 
Required Qualifications
  • Valid course in painting techniques or equivalent experience required
  • Five years recent and related experience required
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Ability to match-in texture and colour of surfaces such as walls, ceilings, and furniture etc.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and blueprints
  • Proficiency in the use of paint spraying equipment
  • Familiarity with current industry products and techniques (ie: two-component paints, epoxy coatings, water-borne paints, stains and coatings, etc.)
  • Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations
  • Ability to take direction
  • Ability to direct others in foreperson capacity preferred
  • Knowledge in the use of microcomputers preferred
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of the tools of the trade
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime, as required
  • General safety, Fall Protection and WHMIS training an asset
