DUTIES

Data from assessments are often used to help inform decision-making and to construct intervention and treatment plans. The focus of this course is on the nature, use, and interpretation of various evaluation methods used to measure/assess aptitude, achievement, career interests, personality, mental health functioning, and intelligence of students and clients. Emphasis is placed on being a competent consumer of assessment tools and on examining how assessment fits into the overall counselling process. Within this framework, the focus is on appropriate and ethical assessment selection, administration, and interpretation, the use of both formal and informal assessment tools, and the ethical use and communication of assessment results.

Responsibilities of the Open Learning Faculty Member (Online) include but are not limited to: 

  • Delivering Courses in the Online Modality by actively facilitating learning for students in paced, cohort courses with specific start and end dates
  • Providing instruction based on established core course materials
  • Adding any necessary additional course material
  • Updating course material as per the collective agreement
  • Initiating, leading and managing learning activities and discussions
  • Administrative set up and record keeping
  • Initiating and maintaining regular contact with the student as specified in the collective agreement
  • Marking all assignments, posting results and providing prompt feedback
  • Marking exams and posting results
  • Responding to student queries as per the collective agreement

We anticipate 10 - 25 students in each cohort of this course. These numbers are only estimates and actual numbers for the course may be greater or less than the estimated numbers.


QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • PhD or Doctorate in Education or a related field is required
  • One degree in Education is required
  • Demonstration of current and ongoing engagement in the course subject matter of K-12 curriculum, teaching and learning through research and/or the scholarship of teaching, including the dissemination of outcomes in appropriate academic venues is required
  • Demonstration of current and ongoing engagement in the course subject matter through research and/or the scholarship of teaching, including the dissemination of outcomes in appropriate academic venues is required
  • Three (3) years of full time or equivalent hours teaching in K-12 settings is required
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required
  • Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) is required
  • Proven course development skills in a face-to-face or distance environment is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to write in a clear and consistent style with grammatical accuracy is required
  • The ability to meet deadlines is required
  • The ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner is required
  • Experience or education in online course development or online facilitation is an asset.

The Open Learning Faculty Member must:

  • Be knowledgeable and experienced in the subject matter of the course
  • Have received training or have successful experience in the active facilitation of learning in a collaborative online environment
  • Have direct experience working with current educational technologies, tools and Learning Management Systems
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of effective pedagogy in the use of current educational technology and tools
  • Have demonstrated skills and abilities in the delivery of flexible learning materials, the application of instructional technology and in the application of adult learning principles
  • Course evaluations from students that demonstrate
