RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
An ultrasonographer is a highly-skilled professional who uses specialized equipment to create images of structures inside the human body that are used by physicians to make a medical diagnosis. Ultrasonography, also known as sonography, is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high frequency sound waves known as ultrasound, to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside a human body often referred to as a sonogram or ultrasound scan. Sonography is increasingly being used in the detection and treatment of abdominal diseases, genital organ tumors and metastatic neoplasms. It is also used to guide fine needle tissue biopsy to assist in taking a sample of cells from an organ for lab testing.

General Duties
• Preparing the patients for the ultrasound examination,
• Selecting the appropriate equipment for the ultrasound examination,
• Performing ultrasound examinations that yield important diagnostic information,
• Recording and gathering ultrasound data,
• Analyzing the data collected and reporting the ultrasound findings to the physician in an oral and written fashion for diagnosis,
• Using independent judgment whether to extend the scope of the ultrasound examination or not based on the ultrasound findings,
• Interacting and collaborating with physicians and other health care professionals for providing a good quality care of the patient.

In addition to the main job duty of testing, the routine job duties are to:
• Maintain daily logs of patients seen and perform routine maintenance of machines,
• Perform, on a daily basis, safety and sanitary procedures on the equipment after each test, and maintain adequate supplies ,
• Consult with physicians and supervisors on a daily basis.


Education / Experience

EDUCATION
DEC + registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) + member of Ordre des technologies en imagerie, en radio-oncologie et en électrophysiologie médicale du Québec.

Having a diploma in Medicine, particularly in gynecology is a significant asset.


Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time
Pay Scale: $43,316 – $80,425.80 Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: from 8 am to 4 pm
Work Site: Glen site and satellite clinics
