DUTIES

The Media Analyst is responsible for the efficient, reliable and day-to-day operation of the institution's audio visual and classroom technologies.


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installs, programs, monitors, maintains, and verifies the audio visual and classroom technologies to ensure effective, reliable, and secure day-to-day operation.  
  • Resolves service tickets related to the audio visual and classroom technologies. 
  • Liaises and works closely with the Supervisor, Media Services and other IT Services personnel, faculty and staff, equipment suppliers, and contractors.
  • Analyses, researches, recommends and provides solutions to technical problems.
  • Implements the expansion and development of audio-visual and classroom technologies by the incorporation of new technologies and the replacement of old and obsolete equipment.
  • Provides training and shares expertise on proper setup and administration of audio-visual and classroom technologies.
  • Schedules and arranges for the installation of equipment.
  • Creates web requisitions to acquire equipment and/or services.
  • Makes recommendations for budget development based on analysis and research.
  • Analyses, researches and suggests potential improvements of TRU’s audio-visual and classroom technologies.
  • Reviews relevant literature in the field of audio-visual, classroom technologies and applications, engages in self-training and research on the internet, attends conferences and takes advantage of professional development opportunities to maintain currency of technical skills and knowledge.
  • Prepares various reports and technical documents. Updates relevant documentation (equipment inventory, service tickets).
  • Maintains an inventory of media equipment (fixed and portable assets), spare equipment and parts.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION:

    • Grade 12, plus completion of two-year diploma related to electronics, audio/visual or equivalent. 


    EXPERIENCE:

    • Five years’ related specialized experience in A/V Equipment
      • (hardware - media controllers, audio, video devices, conferencing equipment and media software)


    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

    • Advanced ability to analyze and understand technical manuals, equipment specifications, codes and regulations, working drawings, and technical literature
    • Advanced ability to analyze and understand complex material including working drawings, technical manuals, and reports
    • Advanced interpersonal skills
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Advanced ability to understand and operate successfully within a complex environment of multiple interconnected and technical systems
    • Advanced understanding of the principles and operation of voice and data communication systems and equipment
    • Knowledge of various network protocols (e.g. TCP/IP) and communication wiring design (e.g. wiring certification)
    • Ability to deal with users, coworkers and external vendors with courtesy, discretion and tact
    • Ability to deal with difficult situations appropriately


    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Sitting at desk and computer for medium periods of time; visiting client locations; general office conditions
    • Working in dusty conditions while working on installation and expansion of voice and data networks
    • Working from a ladder 
    • Ability to lift weights 10kg and over
    • Travel to satellite campus required (two to three times per year) 
       

    The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
    Pay Band
    $29.79 - $33.10 ( CUPE Grade 08 (90% - 100%) )
    Salary rate
    This Position is not subject to a 90% start rate for new Employees.
