Position Details
The Materials Management Department invites qualified applicants to apply for the full-time (35 hours/week) continuing position of Materials Handling Worker to start May 1, 2024.
Reporting to the Shipping/Receiving Supervisor, the material handler is responsible for managing and distributing the daily stream of mail and freight to all areas of campus.
Responsibilities:
As one of two material handling workers, this person will be responsible but not limited to the following:
  • Receive incoming freight shipments and enter data in computer and validate against purchase orders
  • Distribute all mail and freight to locations across campus
  • Off Campus Pick up and deliveries
  • Ensure all University Safety Policies and protocols are being adhered to on and off campus
  • Day to day clerical duties may include but not limited to filing documents, scanning and completing incident reports
  • Represent the University in a professional manner both on and off campus
  • Assisting with disposal of surplus goods

As well, this position works a 7-hour workday with minimal overtime requirements. This position is classified under the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE).
The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification review for Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) positions. As such, the classification level currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.
Position Qualifications
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a High School diploma with 1 – 2 years in a delivery Driver or similar position and proven ability to maintain relationships with customers and the general public. A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant should be physically fit as the job requires times of heavy lifting (22.6kg/50lbs or more), pushing/pulling of carts/freight and long periods of walking are all daily components of the job. Applicant should also have strong written and verbal communication skills and high attention to detail.
Preference will be given to those applicants with experience with forklift operation, warehouse/stores operation, computer software (i.e. Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Banner), and other related equipment. Experience in a warehouse or stores type operation would be considered an asset.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $3,648.00 - $4,036.00 monthly
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $3,648.00 - $4,422.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 6)
