DUTIES

The MTNE works as a member of the TRU World Management Team reporting to the Director, International Partnerships and Business Development, TRU World. The MTNE works closely with TRU World staff members, Deans and Program Coordinators and is the key contact with the administration and faculty of offshore partners, external agencies and overseas associates for transnational education programs and, in some cases, short-term training projects.

The MTNE manages the administration of offshore programs, articulation agreements and partnership agreements and contributes to the successful implementation of short-term training projects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The MTNE liaises with respective academic or technical divisions within TRU and with offshore partners for the successful implementation of transnational education programs. The MTNE plays a key role in achieving TRU World’s strong commitment in building quality offshore programs and furthering our strategic goals for student recruitment.

  • Under the direction of the Director, International Partnerships and Business Development, manages all activities related to transnational education programs.
  • Participates as a member of the Management Team in the activities associated with short-term training projects.
  • Prepares and manages transnational education program budgets. 
  • Supervises staff including hiring, performance management, work scheduling, evaluation, and labour relations.
  • Works closely with the Director, International Partnerships and Business Development in marketing and negotiating transnational education and short-term training activities overseas.
  • Contributes to the enhancement of TRU’s profile in overseas markets by performing hosting activities and promoting a client-centered approach to the business relations of the department.

  • TRANSNATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS

  • In collaboration with the Director, International Partnerships and Business Development, assists in the identification and analysis of potential partners, making recommendations on their acceptance or rejection.
  • Develops operating manuals for transnational education activities.
  • Develops and supervises the budgeting and financial management of transnational education activities.
  • Manages all aspects of transnational education programs, including activities related to negotiating terms and conditions of agreements, contract implementation and delivery of programs.
  • Implements the protocols and guidelines of transnational education agreements, working closely with TRU World team members, Deans, Directors, Coordinators, the Registrar’s Office and any other necessary TRU personnel.
  • Works closely with the appropriate TRU personnel and offshore partners to ensure the successful transition of TRU staff members to offshore locations and visiting scholars to TRU.
  • Manages the process for transition of transferring offshore students by coordinating activities between the TRU partner institutions and the TRU ISA team.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports on transnational education activities.

  • SHORT TERM TRAINING

  • Participates, as part of the Management Team, in the design, development and implementation of short-term training projects.
  • Acts as a liaison between TRU World and short-term training clients where necessary.

  • HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

  • Manages the activities related to the hiring of staff, including the recruiting, interviewing, and selection.
  • Supervises reporting staff, including training, motivating, setting goals, evaluating and disciplining.
  • Assesses and supports the professional development needs of reporting staff. 
  • Acts in accordance with relevant collective agreements.
  • Manages contractors engaged for specific projects.

  • The MTNE is responsible for the direct supervision of the following positions:

    • International Accreditations Coordinators (2 positions)

    QUALIFICATIONS

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
    Required Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (preference for post-graduate coursework or Masters degree)
    • Minimum of five (5) years related experience, including staff supervision, project management, contract implementation, and budgeting
    • International experience in the business and education sectors in Asia and other markets where TRU is engaged


    Required Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:

    • Fluency in English and a foreign language preferred
    • Understanding and working knowledge of a variety of cultures in both the education and business contexts, including an excellent understanding of the regions and countries where TRU is active in offshore delivery
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with no restrictions and full use of own vehicle
    • Must be able to travel outside of Canada
