Reporting to the Director, RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers (CEAD), the Manager, Operations is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the operational and logistical excellence associated with a suite of programs, services, platforms, tools, resources, events and activities within the CEAD which prepare OCAD University (OCAD U) students and recent graduates for careers in art, design, media and related fields. The Manager ensures the processes, methods and resources required by full-time, project-based and student staff are consistent with the high standards required to effectively collaborate with employment partners, subject-matter experts, faculty members, campus colleagues and students/alumni.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • In conjunction with the Director, CEAD, develop and implement annual and long-range operational plans and departmental goals which support the University’s academic and strategic plans
  • Facilitate the allocation of CEAD resources, including, in consultation with the Director, managing all program budgets
  • Manage key aspects of the delivery of career development, experiential learning, creative entrepreneurship, community animation and student gallery system activities, providing direction and feedback to staff
  • Develop and manage relationships with a variety of internal stakeholders in support of CEAD programs and services
  • Oversee all CEAD technology platforms, including ongoing development of the Talent Network, the University’s online job board, as well as other CEAD tools and web-based services
  • Develop and implement methods to assess the impact of current programs and services, including detailed performance metrics
  • Support for the tracking, monitoring and reporting associated with funded programs
  • Foster a healthy and supportive workplace culture in the RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers
  • Manage special initiatives, as developed in conjunction with the Director, CEAD
  • Provide supervision or co-supervision to select staff in the department, including hiring, setting goals and objectives, monitoring progress, evaluating employee performance, coaching, and supporting professional development
  • Implement approaches to hybrid on-campus/remote staffing and assist with related features of CEAD staffing oversight
  • Maintain current knowledge of service excellence within student affairs and higher education through active participation in relevant professional associations and conferences
  • Serve on University committees as needed
  • Support the Director, CEAD in other related duties that contribute to the successful operation of the Centre

QUALIFICATIONS:         

  • Masters degree in a discipline related to the role preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in a higher education environment, with some demonstration of capacity to work in a supervisory role
  • Familiarity with OCAD University is an asset
  • Proven interpersonal leadership and project management skills, including conflict resolution
  • Involvement in the hiring, training and retaining of personnel, particularly in a hybrid work context
  • Experience with budget oversight and financial controls
  • Experience in program development, design and assessment required; evidence of innovative thinking in program design and delivery
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including public speaking, writing reports, developing agreements and coordinating funding proposals
  • Strong knowledge of all Microsoft 365 applications and use of sophisticated database systems
  • Demonstrated ability in exercising tact, sound judgement and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and, and proven ability to deal effectively with a diverse population, including students, faculty, administrators, counsellors and support staff 

Compensation: Commensurate with experience, plus benefits. 

Hours of Work: Total of 35 hours per week.

This is a hybrid role and subject to change depending on the needs of the department.
