Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for managing the clinical counsellors in the Health and Counselling Services. The primary focus is operation and people management in the counselling services. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the counsellors are using evidence-based best practices, brief therapy model and to assist counsellors in case management and referrals to external partners in an effort to improve flow and efficiency and increase timely access to counselling services.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Knowledge of operational management and leadership concepts practices including program/service delivery models, policy development, planning, budgeting, performance measurement management, and human resources
• Knowledge of mental health program design, delivery, assessment, and evaluation methodologies, processes, and practices
• Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
• Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, departments, and divisions
• Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
• Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity
• Experience and knowledge with the application of applied research and evidence based care into a clinical setting focusing on implementation and evaluation
• Able to respond to unpredictable events e.g. crisis, student suicidal behavior, staffing changes
• Capable of working independently and making decisions based on sound judgement


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Clinical mental health degree at the Master’s or Psy.D level
• Licensed or registered with a Regulated Mental Health Profession within the province of Ontario
• Clinical supervision designation with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
• Five or more years working as a counsellor and/or psychotherapist, including two years’ experience as a clinical supervisor.
• 2 – 5 year management experience in managing clinical counsellors with a proven record of achievement and success would be an asset

Health and Safety Requirements

This position is regularly required to work on campus in person. In the event of a public health emergency or a health and safety issue, it is possible that you may be required to work temporarily remotely due to public health orders, directives and/or health and safety requirements. If this happens, you will work with your direct manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. You are required to follow all University policies and directives, including to set up a safe and confidential workspace in a remote location and ensure all Carleton property (intellectual and other) is safeguarded. If required to work remotely, you will be notified by your manager when working full time physically onsite will resume.
