Compensation Range
$7,400.83 - $11,540.42 CAD Monthly

UBC Sauder’s Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) supports business students’ personal and professional development journey to responsible leadership through customized services focused on self-exploration, career development and access to business communities.

The Manager, Business Development – Business Analytics is responsible for creating and fostering a network of employers, industry professionals and UBC Sauder School of Business Analytics alumni in local, national and international business communities. The Manager collaborates with this network and multiple divisions of the business school to create career development and work experience opportunities for both undergraduate and master level students specializing in this area.

The incumbent supports the school’s experiential learning programming in the area of business analytics including activities like capstone projects, hackathons, skills development workshops and mentorship programming, as well as other UBC Sauder-led industry initiatives that support community building and knowledge sharing. This may include identifying and sourcing industry partners and participants, technical scoping and briefing.

This role is a unique combination of business development, stakeholder management, technical project scoping and knowledge sharing.

Field-based sales are a critical component of the role in both local, national and international markets. Travel to key markets outside of BC (e.g., Toronto, Calgary, Seattle and New York) is required.


Organizational Status

Reports to the Associate Director, Business Development.

This is an external facing position engaging with local, national and international employers and industry association representatives.

Works closely and interacts with the BCC Business Development Managers and other employees, UBC Sauder faculty, the business development teams of other units (Recruitment and Admissions, Development and Alumni Engagement, Executive Education, etc.) as well as UBC Career Centre and co-op teams at other UBC faculties.

Work Performed

  • Develops and executes annual business plans as well as local and national key employer account plans to meet analytics portfolio targets.

  • Identifies and creates business analytics co-op, internship and new graduate opportunities for student programs including MBA, BCom, BCom Co-op, MM, MM Dual, and MBAN.

  • Sources corporate partners for in-class and capstone projects.

  • Enables opportunities to bring together employers and students for company tours, career exploration, networking and hiring.

  • Participates in setting team’s annual objectives and strategies and quarterly goals and tactics with other members of the Business Development team.

  • Contributes to the development of program marketing and lead generation assets.

  • Participates in the development of business analytics career resources.

  • Delivers industry and career path presentations, and occasional student advising as needed

  • Develops and fosters relationships with multiple business units through client needs assessments, face-to-face company meetings, and integration of campus recruitment programs into their corporate recruitment strategy.

  • Builds staff knowledge of careers in analytics including the BCC’s Business Development and student coaching teams, UBC Sauder Recruitment and Admissions and Development and Alumni Engagement teams.

  • Stays abreast of competitors’ academic programming and presents industry feedback to colleagues and faculty on how programming and skills development can build student talent pipeline for emerging job market opportunities.

  • Responsible for lead generation including cold calling, email outreach, group presentations, marketing campaigns, business networking events, trade shows, conferences, etc.

  • Maintains up to date employer contact records, and employment outcome records in the CRM system.

  • Conducts market analyses within the data analytics field: identifies trends in analytical techniques and business applications, technical and business skills requirements and future career opportunities across multiple industries and geographic regions.

  • Maintains current industry and recruiting trend expertise by consulting relevant publications, conducting research, fostering thought leader relationships, participating in networking events and attending conferences.

  • Tracks and reports on annual expenditures.

  • Identifies and facilitates employer introductions to support revenue generating opportunities for other UBC Sauder divisions including Executive Education, the Development and Alumni Engagement Office and UBC Career Centre.

  • Travels as required to key markets outside of BC (e.g., Toronto, Calgary, Seattle, New York) for in-person client meetings and accompanying visiting groups of students.

  • Performs other duties as required.


Consequence of Error/Judgement

This position represents the Business Career Centre, UBC Sauder School of Business, the students and the University. Incorrect decisions/ judgement will directly affect the UBC Sauder’s and UBC's reputation with the employer community, future alumni and faculty. Incorrect decisions will have impact on the employment of students, the operations of the programs, and the reputation of the school and the University.


Supervision Received

Works independently under general guidance from the Associate Director, Business Development. Work is reviewed against determined goals.
Supervision Given

Delegates and reviews the work of the Business Development Associate, or co-op student as required. Hires and manages contract work performed by outside suppliers such as market research firms.
Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of six years of related experience in an appropriate business specialization, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in data or business analytics, engineering, or computer science is an asset.

  • Understanding and awareness of business analytics applications, methodologies and platforms.

  • Experience in sales/business development and comfort with cold calling is an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Computer skills required: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with Salesforce is an asset.

  • Effective organizational, supervisory and presentation skills.

  • Must be available for evening events during fall and winter recruiting cycles.

  • A valid BC driver license and regular access to a vehicle are essential.

  • Ability to travel is required.
