Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Academic, the Manager, Academic Programs provides leadership and managerial oversight to the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design’s Programs Office. Working with academic leadership, the Manager contributes to the development of strategic priorities, program-specific objectives and to the budget process for all undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs. The Manager provides strategic operational guidance on administrative best practices and engages in continual innovation and improvement to ensure consistent, high-quality administrative support is provided to all programs.

The incumbent implements and coordinates program priorities and directions established by the Associate Dean, Academic and the Program Directors. The Manager oversees key areas within the undergraduate and graduate portfolios, academic affairs, programs, curriculum, feedback collection, teaching assignments, TA policy and procedures, program admissions and student standing oversight. The Manager also works closely with the Office of the Registrar & Student Services (ORSS) to support graduate funding packages, teaching awards, endowment awards, Doctoral completion awards, travel support, etc. The manager plays a leadership role in the development and implementation of procedures while helping to ensure that they conform to University policies. The Manager provides strategic input related to student experience, and administrative support for the undergraduate and graduate programs and special projects.

The Manager, Academic Programs provides oversight and reporting of program activities. The Manager is responsible for managing and delivering accreditation processes and other governance related reports, including UTQAP and professional accreditations. The incumbent works closely with the Program Directors, the Dean’s Office, ORSS, the Faculty Council, and other units to ensure the continuous quality improvement of the programs from collected feedback and reviews.

The Manager, Academic Programs has full managerial oversight of the staff in the Programs Office and models an inclusive, positive environment that highlights a respectful and approachable management style. They assume responsibility for human resources, labour relations and financial management, dispute resolution and compliance of collective agreements. 

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree is an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in office administrative roles within a post-secondary environment. Proven management and leadership skills in a unionized environment; experience in team building and managing change. Experience with the University’s academic policies, procedures, guidelines, systems and structure. Proven experience working with educational programs. Demonstrated knowledge of human resources policies and procedures and routine collective agreement interpretation. Demonstrated experience in liaising with senior administrators, responding to and handling matters of a complex and sensitive nature. Experience developing and implementing new and updated procedures. Experience supporting the creation of strategic objectives, academic program objectives and budget. Experience planning and executing events.

SKILLS:

Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong ability to foster and maintain relations with both internal and external stakeholders. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills in planning, executing, and reporting on tasks and projects. Strong proficiency with computers and related software, including advanced proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Knowledge of the University of Toronto’s academic programs a strong asset.

OTHER:
