The Learning Materials Specialist is an integral member of the shop AT NAIT procurement team and is responsible for the procurement of all text learning resources for NAIT’s three bookstores and online web store.  Under direction from the Manager, Retail Resources, this role will be responsible for ordering all learning materials and supplies for their assigned academic programs.  Candidates must possess the ability to network with the NAIT community and research current trends in order to best anticipate student product demand.  This is a highly collaborative role in a team environment. shop AT NAIT is committed to serving student success, and we invite all applicants to apply who are passionate about joining us in this commitment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishing and cultivating relationships with NAIT academic and operational programs
  • Possessing a keen knowledge of related commodities and apply it to optimize the store’s physical and online product mix
  • Organizing, compiling, tracking, and ordering all learning materials and supplies for their assigned programs while adhering to purchasing policies
  • Ensuring that services are continuous and not impacted by missed deadlines, product shortages, quality compromises, or inflated costs.
  • Actively demonstrating a sense of urgency to complete multiple tasks within established timelines.
  • Communicating complete, timely and accurate order details to suppliers
  • Consistently evaluating product suitability, market conditions, and competitive pricing
  • Ensuring that invoices are checked for accuracy in pricing, coding, and quantity and are processed in a timely manner
  • Managing product obsolescence and returns
  • Effectively following established processes to maximize store profitability and organization.
  • Seeking opportunities for special promotions that support NAIT students and the campus community.
  • Assisting teammates and customers on the sales floor, and providing support for the merchandising of designated commodities

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Previous experience purchasing products for resale in a post-secondary environment (e.g. university bookstore) is highly desirable; similar experience in a large retail or service environment will also be considered.
  • Candidates with product trend knowledge and experience purchasing textbooks and/or learning supplies are desirable. 
  • Knowledge of industrial supply lines and educational resource
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail, deadline driven, and organizational skills are strong assets.

 

Qualifications:

  • Completion of coursework in purchasing; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Completion of post-secondary education related to supply chain management preferred.

 

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).


Remuneration: $47,725 - $62,092.1432 annually (based 32.625 hours per week),  plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Buyer l).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
