The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Instructor with outstanding teaching contributions and a collaborative team and a student-centered attitude. Reporting to the Academic Chair in Academic Upgrading, you will be responsible for teaching a course in Math 007 (Grades 5 to 8) to students in the Indigenous Foundations Program (IFP). If you have a passion and aptitude for teaching, are knowledgeable in this course area, strive to contribute to applied education, and enjoy coaching diverse students, we encourage you to apply and join a great place to work!
 
Course: MATH 007, Mathematics Fundamentals
Program Term: 4 March – 14 June 2024
Course Dates/Times: Mondays 1-2.50 PM, Wednesday 9-10.50 AM, Thursday 1-2.50 PM

The Role
    • Implement innovative teaching methods that promote student engagement and inclusivity.
    • Utilize trauma-informed teaching practices to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
    • Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity in teaching Indigenous students.
    • Incorporate Indigenous perspectives into the curriculum and create an inclusive learning environment.
    • Incorporate applied learning strategies to enhance student understanding, engagement, and application of concepts.
    • Evaluate students' progress and provide timely, formative feedback.
    • Provide ongoing academic support, guidance and advice to learners.
    • Familiarize students with available SAIT supports and make referrals as needed.

Qualifications & Experience
    • Experience teaching or working in Indigenous settings or completion of studies in Indigenous Education.
    • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed .), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc .), or related discipline; a Master’s in Education (M.Ed .) is considered an asset.
    • Experience teaching math to adult learners is essential, particularly at lower grade levels (lower than grade 10).
    • Minimum of 3 years post-secondary teaching experience teaching high school equivalency courses. Experience teaching in high school is an asset.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
    • Excellent ability to manage time and prioritize responsibilities.
