The MacPhail School of Energy is the only energy school in Canada, and we are charting a new course with a focus on sustainable energy sources and practices. MacPhail School of Energy provides hands-on, industry-guided training in labs that mimic job site environments, giving students the skills needed to find a rewarding career in the energy sector.
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced instrumentation professional who is passionate about sharing knowledge and helping students succeed. The teaching areas of expertise required are for full-time courses in our Instrumentation Engineering Technology (diploma) & Instrument Technician (Apprenticeship) programs.
The Instrumentation program covers course topics that include: Process Measurement and Controls, Instrumentation Programming, and hands-on equipment selection, installation and troubleshooting.
You would be responsible for a broad range of duties and responsibilities designed to support and accomplish SAIT’s mission as an educational institution. We look forward to hearing from you!
The Role
    • Understand, apply and relate to students the essential facts, concepts, procedures and principles in the areas of expertise as designated by the curriculum 
    • Use a variety of instructional techniques to promote learning and personal development 
    • Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
    • Responsible for the delivery of Instruction in a respective, positive learning environment by being inclusive, consistent and communicate clear expectations 
    • Manage the classroom (online or in person) or lab to the benefit of all learners 
    • Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to students 
    • Evaluate student progress and facilitate student achievement 
    • Seek feedback from students and make appropriate adjustments
    • Assist in the development of curriculum and program reviews 
    • Prepare course material utilizing task based methods of learning as required, and use a variety of instructional techniques and technologies to enhance the delivery of curriculum
    • Prepare and deliver lecture material which includes handouts, in class assignments, lab work as necessary (lesson plans, evaluation tools)
    • Follow course outlines and review and modify course outlines as necessary to meet learning objectives
    • Grade assignments, quizzes, exams etc. and provide comments to encourage learning and student success
    • Entry of grades and final marks in accordance to timelines in appropriate location (Banner, D2L, mySAIT)
    • Follow academic policies and procedures regarding copyright, attendance, academic dishonesty
    • Follow and reinforce lab safety polices and rules
    • Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors

Qualifications & Experience
    • Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology or a Bachelor Degree in a related discipline
    • A graduate degree will be considered an asset
    • 5 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent
    • Previous Instructional experience highly recommended
    • Experience in a laboratory setting where applicable
    • Experience with process control systems like DCS, SCADA, PLCs, Fieldbus, or SIS; pressure, temperature, level and flow measurement equipment; and hands-on field experience installing, maintaining and commissioning field instruments and valves

Hourly rate: $43.79 - $51.57
