The Opportunity
The School of Manufacturing & Automation is currently recruiting for a Temporary Full-Time Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Instructor to join us for the Fall 2024-25 Academic year. This position will appeal to innovative individuals who enjoy a challenge, seek the opportunity to share their expertise, work with motivated learners and staff, and are interested in ongoing professional development. 
*Note this is a temporary salaried position eligible for benefits
The Role
    • Preparation and presentation of Alberta, Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) curriculum
    • Instruction of curriculum to apprentices and related Pre-Employment students
    • Prepare additional study and lab materials for learners
    • Participation in curriculum and program reviews
    • Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
    • Show a personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
    • Work with fellow faculty members on joint projects and curriculum maintenance

Qualifications & Experience
    • Required
    • Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate
    • Interprovincial Red Seal certificate
    • Minimum 3 years’ Industry experience in the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) trade as a Journeyperson
    • Will consider 5 years of related industry experience in an industrial sector

    • Preferred
    • Teaching experience would be considered an asset
    • Experience in Reciprocating Compressors and/or Hydraulics
    • A second related trade ticket is also an asset

Skills & Knowledge
    • Excellent communication skills, basic trade math, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 
    • Proven interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential
    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
    • Aptitude for mentoring and coaching others, with a willingness to spend quality time to help students succeed
    • Comfortable with public speaking and have the ability to engagingly convey conceptual and practical course subjects to diverse students and learning styles
    • Ability to organize course concepts and materials to create an optimal learning environment
    • Possess a positive respectful attitude and desire to support team members and the Academic Chair with program improvements
    • Ability to adapt to situations such as unexpected workloads
