DUTIES

JOB SUMMARY
The Enterprise Business and Relationship Analyst, Information Technology is accountable for ensuring successful management of projects as well as assessment and documentation of business functions related to Thompson Rivers University Information Technology (IT) related initiatives, process, and projects. The position is accountable for fostering strong relationships with business stakeholders and analyzing business needs to drive effective IT solutions. This role acts as a liaison between different departments and the IT team, ensuring that business requirements are understood, translated into actionable plans, and successfully implemented. The individual in this role will play a crucial part in enhancing organizational efficiency, promoting innovation, and driving positive change through the alignment of technology initiatives with business goals. This includes understanding the needs of business units through analysis of the organization's strategic direction and priorities.


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders by conducting regular meetings and discussions to understand business objectives, challenges and requirements.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and document functional technical requirements for projects through the use of interviews, workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits and other discovery methods.
  • Analyze and prioritize business needs ensuring alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that technology initiatives and business requirements align with ITS strategy, the organization’s business strategy and IT capabilities and resources.
  • Utilize agile and design thinking to assist in project planning, scoping, and resource allocation in collaboration with project managers.
  • Monitor project progress, troubleshoot problems, and analyze status reports to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and meeting stakeholder expectations.
  • Effectively communicate and liaise with project teams and stakeholders regarding the project status on an ongoing basis.
  • Research, identify, and generate recommendations for senior management to improve operational effectiveness, efficiency and innovation.
  • Analyze data and business processes to support decision-making, problem solving and provide valuable insight and recommendations to stakeholders and management.
  • Support and manage the impact of changes on business processes, systems, and people by facilitating communication between stakeholders and IT teams.
  • Maintain, track and present key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of IT projects and services against business objectives, and keep stakeholders and management informed of relevant metrics. 
  • Collaborate with procurement and vendor management teams to evaluate and contribute to the selection of external vendors and service providers.
  • Work with product vendors and IT enterprise systems analysts to ensure customer goals are met.
  • Identify potential risks and issues related to IT projects and services and work with stakeholders to develop mitigation plans.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a business or IT related field 
    • Certification in business analysis (e.g., CBAP), project management (e.g., PMP), or related fields is advantageous


    EXPERIENCE:

    • Seven (7) years’ experience performing functions within knowledge areas related to Business Relationship Management and Business Analysis, including:
      • Three (3) years of experience supporting project management related functions
      • Three (3) years of experience overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and/or hardware solutions, systems, or products
      • Three (3) years of experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development


    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

    • Knowledge of business relationship management principles as identified by Business Relationship Management Institute (BRM Institute), tools, standards, and techniques, to contribute to the successful governance and management of client portfolios
    • Strong understanding of public sector operations, policies, and procedures
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders
    • Demonstrated expertise in Project Portfolio Management (PPM) as identified within the TRU PMO mission and vision, to lead the implementation, maintenance, and management of best practices for I&IT portfolio management
    • Analytical mindset with the ability to translate business needs into actionable IT solutions
    • Independent ability to plan, develop and apply solutions, with or without technological requirements
    • Demonstrated analytical ability to evaluate and consider various scenarios and outcomes
    • Knowledge of information technology concepts, such as familiarity of the processes associated with Cobit 5
    • Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language
    • Acute attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy
    • Demonstrated ability to manage a workload with changing priorities and varying stakeholder interests
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate complex concepts with tact and diplomacy to others
    • Demonstrated advanced abilities in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Visio for technical documentation, process mapping, project management, statistical calculations, graphing, etc.
    • Ability to work independently or in a team as well as with various levels and business units within Thompson Rivers University
    • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

    The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
    Pay Band
    $36.78 - $40.87 ( CUPE Grade 11 (90% - 100%) )
    Salary rate
    This Position is not subject to a 90% start rate for new Employees.
