Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a full time; tenured or tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The successful candidate will join the Department of Indigenous Studies on the Saskatoon campus at the University of Saskatchewan. In this position, we are seeking a colleague with expertise in one of our four core areas of research and programming: Governance; Development; Gender; or History, Language and Culture to teach in the department both as part of the core program and in their area of specialty, to supervise graduate students, lead a nationally recognized research program, compete successfully for external funding, and assume formal and informal leadership opportunities in the department.

The Department of Indigenous Studies is situated within the College of Arts and Science and takes an interdisciplinary academic focus. We offer BA, BA Honours, MA, and PhD programs. A dynamic unit, we currently have 9 faculty members, including two research chairs, with additional associate and adjunct members from other departments and institutions. Indigenous Studies is dedicated to the development of applied and theoretical investigations of Indigenous concerns and strategic community-based research. It is also dedicated to servicing the Indigenous Studies content needs of other academic programs in the university on and off-campus. The College of Arts and Science offers a dynamic combination of programs in the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. There are approximately 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the College, and 300 faculty members, including 9 Canada Research Chairs. The College emphasizes student and faculty research, interdisciplinary programs, community outreach and international opportunities.

There are eight Indigenous nations whose territories make up the province of Saskatchewan: Cree, Anishinaabeg, Lakota, Dakota, Nakoda, Dene, Saulteaux, and Métis. Saskatchewan is also home to many other Indigenous Peoples from across Canada and beyond. Collectively, Indigenous People make up 15.6% of the provincial population and almost 10% of the population of the city of Saskatoon.

We are seeking candidates who have an established research program in the field of Indigenous Studies and demonstrated excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ideal candidate would hold a tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or above, have a record of commitment to advancing the discipline of Indigenous Studies, demonstrated experience and interest in mentorship and leadership, and provide evidence of a positive working relationship with Indigenous peoples and communities. Preference will be given to those whose research area fits broadly in our four core areas of Governance; Development; Gender; or History, Language and Culture in Indigenous Studies, and those with a demonstrated aptitude for leadership.

Salary bands for this position for the 2022-2023 academic year are as follows: Associate Professor: $120,099 to $140,253; and Professor $140,253 to $163,766.
