NOTE: This is a temporary position ending on or before August 15, 2024.

 

NAIT is seeking contract instructors to teach various math and statistics courses in different programs in the School of Applied Sciences and Technology.  Additional content development opportunities may be required.

 

Technical Mathematics, Calculus and Basic Statistics

Monday 7pm-9pm at Main Campus, Wednesday 7-9pm online, Friday 7-9pm online

 

Business Mathematics

Tuesday and Thursday 8am-10am at Main Campus

 

Business Statistics

Monday and Wednesday 10am-12pm online

 

Business Statistics

Tuesday and Thursday 2pm-4pm at Main Campus

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct assigned courses using problem-based learning, technology supported learning as well as other instructional and assessment strategies.
  • Adapt pre-existing course resources to different student needs, and teach using a variety of lesson types (direct instruction, group work, flipped classroom) to support student success
  • Prepare, create, and deliver lessons and activities that directly support the course Learning Outcomes in a classroom environment
  • Create and administer in-person or online assessments according to Learning Outcomes
  • Provide qualitative and quantitative feedback to students.
  • Utilize appropriate educational technology for communications and course delivery
  • Apply classroom management strategies to maintain an effective learning environment for students
  • Maintain student attendance, grades and other documentation as required
  • Maintain professional ethical relationships with students and colleagues
  • Respond professionally to student questions, issues and concerns
  • Seek feedback from students on instructional effectiveness
  • Complete Safety Orientation Online Course; Cyber Security Training; Respect at NAIT; and Emergency Warden Training.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Subject-matter expertise in technical mathematics, business mathematics, statistics or calculus (depending on specific course taught)
  • Proficient computer skills for course delivery are required, including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel), online Learning Management Systems (Moodle, Brightspace), virtual meeting software (Teams, WebEx) and gradebook
  • Familiar with analysis/visualization software such as Excel, Desmos, GeoGebra, R, or Maple to support mathematical learning
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Classroom management and instructional skills for in-person and/or online environments
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

 

Qualifications:

  • Related B.Sc. degree (Mathematics, Engineering or Statistics) or B.Ed. (Secondary Mathematics) preferred
  • Teaching experience at post-secondary or high school level an asset

 

Remuneration: $99 per hour. (Classification - Instructor A)

This position is covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement
