NAIT Industry Solutions is a $40+ million per year business unit with over 200 employees that provides applied research, corporate training, and continuing education for partners from industry, government, and other post-secondary institutions nationally and internationally. The Indigenous Partnerships & Engagement Team is accountable for building and maintaining meaningful relationships with Indigenous partners for NAIT Industry Solutions. We are currently seeking a passionate Community Engagement Specialist (CES) to work within our team.
Reporting to the Manager Indigenous Partnerships & Engagement and working closely with other Applied Research Business Development Leads the CES will be an enthusiastic and ambitious individual whose mission in life is to help improve the lives of Indigenous peoples in Alberta and beyond. We are looking for a highly motivated team player unabashedly passionate about working with Indigenous communities, groups and companies. Trailblazing new initiatives and striving to make a positive difference in the lives of Indigenous people and communities through applied research and capacity building.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with new and existing Indigenous Partners to identify and develop innovative community-based applied research initiatives in collaboration with NAIT’s 8 applied research centers and teams.
- Connect with Indigenous partners directly through a variety of inputs (in person, phone, chats, email, etc.).
- Conduct needs assessments to identify appropriate applied research solutions for partners.
- Work alongside the Manager – Indigenous Partnerships & Engagement to establish Indigenous Partner relationships that support the partner’s goals and aspirations for their community.
- Participate in Indigenous cultural events on campus and in the local community.
- Collaborate with the Nîsôhkamâtotân team to build and maintain relationships with Indigenous partners.
- Present NAIT’s products and services to potential partners
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to travel 25% of the time with possible overnights required.
- Indigenous lived experience an asset
- Knowledge of Indigenous language, protocols, and customs
- Knowledge of Indigenous community perspectives and challenges
- Proposal writing (experience in Indigenous Proposals preferred)
- Knowledge of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action, and Indian Act
- An aptitude for recognizing and responding to opportunities for new value creation.
- Strong and confident communication skills (verbal and written)
- Effective at building relationships and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Skilled in prioritizing work to align with department objectives.
- Knowledge of applicable software and tech-savvy (Salesforce experience an asset)
- Organizational skills
- Proven experience in customer service, business development, sales, or a similar role
Qualifications:
- Related bachelor’s degree or diploma, or equivalent combinations of education and/or experience
- At least three years of success in Indigenous Partner and relationship development
Remuneration: $96,356.78 - $127,657.66 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
