Position Summary:

The Faculty of Science at McGill University aims to be a leader in scientific discovery and in finding solutions critical to economic and human development, including key questions in the environmental sciences, new materials, and new technologies.  We’re looking for a communications intern to join our team and help us share the stories of the Faculty of Science.  What you can expect:

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to building awareness of Faculty of Science research, students, publications, events, and other initiatives, consistent with the University and Faculty’s missions and strategic direction.
  • Generate written content related to the Faculty (articles, social media posts, newsletter, web copy, etc.)
  • Assist with the Faculty of Science social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and newsletter
  • Produce videos about the Faculty of Science and its students and faculty
  • Assist in promoting activities/events of the Faculty of Science with the goal of engaging the McGill community
  • Photograph research initiatives and events
  • Assist Faculty of Science communication team with media production
  • Conduct interviews with faculty members and students on campus
  • Collaborate with Faculty of Science staff on other multimedia tasks as needed

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Excellent written communication
  • Demonstrated experience producing and editing videos for social media, including Instagram Reels 
  • Demonstrated video and photography experience in varied lighting and sound conditions
  • Reliable, with strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Familiarity with social media tools and platforms (Facebook,
  • Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite, Envoke, etc.)
  • Graphic design experience and familiarity with Canva an asset
  • Knowledge of the Faculty of Science an asset
  • Fluency in French (ability to write and translate content) an asset
  • Familiarity with Drupal WMS (McGill website) system an asset
  • Knowledge of French and English

Experience and education:

  • High School Diploma with two years of relevant experience in the field of work
