Working for the Department

Reporting to the Campus Services Business Intelligence Management (BIM) Tech Group Lead Technician this position installs and supports networked and stand alone transactional devices in support of all Campus Services Operations. The transactional devices facilitate transactions (such as accepting payment, granting (or denying) access, and/or counting traffic while generating data that is analysed and used in support of Business Intelligence decisions. Examples include but are not limited to desktop & laptop computers, point of sales terminals, card access controllers, license plate pay stations /cameras, parking enforcement tablets, laundry controllers, vending controllers, etc.   

Duties

Equipment Installation and Set-Up 

  • Install, configure and test transactional devices
  • Install, configure and test  low voltage cabling and network for transactional devices
  • Install signage specific to the Business Requirements
  • Assist Central Information Services and Technology (IST) in setting up and configuring administrative computers for Campus Services administrative services including but not limited to the following:
  • Parking Management System
  • Housing Management System
  • Retail Management Systems (Bookstore and Pharmacy)
  • Credit and Debit Card Terminals
  • Key management systems
  • Assist IST and External contractors in installing, setting up and supporting computer networking in support of business needs. For example - assisting commercial internet service providers in establishing network services on campus or assisting IST in establishing cabling paths to new or existing transactional equipment

Equipment and Service Support 

  • Monitor and respond to  demand  service requests from Service Now, and the BIM Help Line
  • Required to be on-call (after hours standby) on a rotating basis to respond to system failures
  • Respond to scheduled  service requests (such as preventive maintenance)
  • Troubleshoot & assist with issues regarding services provided by external contractors including by not limited to the following: Monitoring service dashboards (ie Meraki Dashboard) and responding to issues, and troubleshooting physical cabling issues Coordinate with Transactional System Providers to resolve issues in support of Bookstore, Pharmacy, GSSMC
  • Order, receive, deliver and replace consumables in transactional devices (ie receipt paper)

Cash and Cash Equivalent Collection 

  • Assist (when circumstances require) in collecting cash from self-serve devices and from remote locations and assist in counting and depositing cash and cash equivalents in a secure manner and in compliance with University Policy

Documentation 

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of on-line documentation on Information Systems and Services
  • Create documents in support of compliance with industry standards & University policy.

Qualifications

  • Minimum One-Year technical certificate, diploma, or equivalent in related field: Networking, Instrumentation, Automation, Technology
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License (non-GDL) and a clean driver's abstract is required; comfortable operating a University of Alberta vehicle
  • Familiarity with collaborative working tools, Google Apps, would be an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and time constraints 
  • Demonstration of excellent judgment and discretion
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
