Schedule Description
DUTIES
The biomedical engineering simulation technician will work closely with the Nursing Resource and Simulation Center Coordinator and faculty from the BScN and HCA programs, providing advice and support in using patient care simulation equipment and operating the nursing lab. The biomedical engineering simulation technician will manage equipment (defibrillators, IV pumps, lifts, beds) including: multi-media, computer, and other related resources used in patient care simulation exercises. In addition to this, the technician will be responsible for the setup, routine maintenance, clean up and day to day operations of the Nursing Practice Resource and Simulation Centers at Thompson Rivers University.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- Four-year Undergraduate University degree in Biomedical Engineering, plus Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist® (CHSOS®) certification
- WHMIS Certification
EXPERIENCE:
- 2 years’ Experience in Biomedical Technology or a related field
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
- Demonstrated knowledge of Computer Programming, hardware, and software applications (accounting or scheduling software), MS Office Suite, A/V expertise, Business Systems, or Accounting.
- Ability to work with sophisticated simulation software programs
- Technical trouble-shooting skills
- Ability to deal courteously, tactfully, and persuasively with students, staff, faculty
- Demonstrated knowledge of safe laboratory practices
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team
- Demonstrated knowledge of forecasting equipment costs
- Valid Class 5 vehicle license.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Sitting at a desk or standing for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift weights in excess of 10kg
- Travel required
The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
Pay Band
$29.21 - $32.45 ( CUPE Grade 07 (90% - 100%) )
Salary rate
This Position is not subject to a 90% start rate for new Employees.
