The expected UBC salary for this position is $150,000 per annum at the Assistant Professor level; clinical service will be compensated through the B.C. Medical Service Plan Alternate Payment Program. The Department of Medical Genetics, at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track, or Associate Professor, tenure. The successful applicant will be expected to serve as a consultant Clinical Geneticist in the Provincial Medical Genetics Program at BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre and hold a concurrent appointment as an Investigator in the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHRI).

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

The UBC Department of Medical Genetics is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in basic and clinical research for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of genetic diseases. The Provincial Medical Genetics Program provides genetic services within British Columbia and has a long tradition of excellence in clinical care, education, and research. The scope of clinical practice includes pediatric genetic assessment, dysmorphology, prenatal genetic assessment and counseling, and adult clinical genetics.

The BCCHRI is the largest research institute of its kind in Western Canada, where more than 400 Investigators form a dynamic and highly collaborative research community that aims to improve the health of children and their families. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with a large and diverse community of basic scientists and clinicians.

Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Medical Genetics, the successful candidate will build an innovative translational research program to improve the clinical care of patients with neurodevelopmental disorders, participate in the teaching activities of the Department, and provide mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners. The incumbent will also be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community. They will work collaboratively in diverse groups to bring forward strategic initiatives for the Department and the Faculty. The successful candidate will contribute to fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and embodies values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration, and equity. Equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice are essential to academic excellence, as well as to fostering an inclusive community for voices that have been historically underrepresented or discouraged.

The successful candidate will hold an MD-PhD, or an MD with at least two additional years of research training. The incumbent will have specialist certification in Medical Genetics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and be eligible for permanent licensing from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. Additionally, the successful candidate should have expertise in the genetics and genomics of neurodevelopmental disorders with a research focus on chromatin regulation. At the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track), the successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching and demonstrated ability in scholarly activity. At the rank of Associate Professor (tenure), the successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of successful teaching and ability to direct graduate students and evidence of sustained and productive scholarly activity, and must be willing to participate in the affairs of the Department and the University.
