Position Description:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at McGill University invites applications for one tenure-track position in Mechanical Engineering, preferably at the Assistant Professor level. The opening is in the broad field of mechanics of solids, all areas including theory, numerics, experimentation and their application. Researchers working in any technical subject of solid mechanics including - but not limited to - mechanics of materials under extreme conditions, mechanics of energy storage materials, physics-informed machine learning for solid mechanics, fracture and fatigue mechanics, contact and interface mechanics, multiscale and multifield mechanics, biomechanics, are encouraged to apply.

The Department is committed to excellence in teaching in its undergraduate and graduate programs in Mechanical Engineering and values service contributions of its faculty members to the University, the profession and society at-large.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Candidates must have a Ph.D., preferably with a first degree in Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or Aerospace Engineering, and a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching. Evidence of outstanding research achievements, or research potential, is indispensable.  

Preferred qualifications include dedication to an environment that supports diversity of population and perspectives; as our students come from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and backgrounds, we invite candidates to address in their application their ability to teach, supervise, and mentor in this context. Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required.
