Position Description

The Department of Medicine of McGill University invites applications for a full-time Clinician-Teacher or Clinician- Scientist at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. 
The candidate will also be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). The candidate will join the Geriatrics group, which consists of 9 full-time academic geriatricians and a Family Medicine member. The successful candidate must be interested in pursuing an academic career.

Job Duties

As a Clinician-Teacher, the successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching.

As a Clinician-Scientist, the candidate will be expected to spend 50% of their time dedicated to research and develop and maintain an independent and productive research program. The research program is expected to attract external peer reviewed funding (e.g. Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de Recherche Québec—Santé). Internal startup funding may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate.

The clinical responsibilities of the candidate will include rounding on the clinical teaching units, covering consult services, attending in outpatient clinics and taking evening and weekend on call duties in Geriatric Medicine.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Candidates must hold an MD degree and must have completed specialty training in Geriatric Medicine;

  • Candidates must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;

  • Candidates must have completed, or intend to complete at least one additional year of clinical and /or research training or hold a MSc or PhD degree in a domain pertaining to aging and geriatrics;

  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
