The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, College of Health Sciences, University of Alberta, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone, is inviting applications for a full-time Academic anesthesiologist at the Assistant Professor level, with expertise in medical education. The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is a growing research and education-focused Department, currently consisting of 6 Full-Time and 2 Special-Continuing Academic Faculty and over 200 Clinical Faculty across four teaching hospitals. The Department has a fully accredited Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada residency program and a well-developed subspecialty fellowship program. The Department also offers clinical experience to medical students and residents from other training programs during their elective anesthesia rotations. Research groups within the Department are involved in clinical trials that span a wide spectrum of perioperative and pain medicine. The Department's research strengths are in the areas of neuro-immune contributions to chronic pain states; the neurobiology of pain; prenatal iron deficiency; mechanisms of myocardial protection and ischemia-reperfusion injury; nutritional support and immunometabolism; chronic post-surgical pain and persistent opioid use; psychological interventions and pediatric chronic pain; regional anesthesia and perioperative outcomes.

Position Summary and Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a physician (MD), with FRCPC or equivalent in anesthesiology or be eligible for FRCPC application and will also be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
The ideal candidate will have received advanced training in educational scholarship.
The successful applicant will be expected to mentor and teach medical students, residents and fellows, in addition to supervising summer and elective research students.
The role involves participation in clinical care, teaching, research, and quality improvement. Expectations include knowledge dissemination and research impact, reviewed annually with the Chair and the Dean of the Faculty.
The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenure-track appointment in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
