Position Description

The McGill University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) based at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, renewable Contract Academic Staff appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will join the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM), which comprises subspecialists who care for mothers and unborn fetuses with complex pregnancy related conditions, offering tertiary and quaternary care for patients from across a wide referral area. Our specialists conduct consultations, diagnostic procedures and perform fetal therapies and interventions. We collaboratively manage women with chronic illnesses with other hospital specialist services. Our division members have special expertise in many fields—including ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis, prenatal genetics, preterm labor, multiple gestations, and perinatal infectious diseases.

The successful candidate will be a member of the McGill University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Division of Maternal and Fetal Medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital, McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). They will participate in the on-call schedule, provide consultation, and manage women with high risk pregnancies.

The successful candidate is expected to perform clinical duties and attend departmental and division meetings. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Hold an MD degree (or equivalent), or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
  • Have completed subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine and be eligible for competency-based certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
  • Have a strong and demonstrable interest in research (i.e., clinical, basic science, and education) and/or in innovation;
  • Formal training in Maternal and Fetal medicine, as well as in medical education, research, or management will be an asset;
  • Bilingual language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
