SAIT’s Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) focuses on non-credit programs supporting corporate training, the individual learner and international projects. We create courses and programs for life-long learning with careers at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to up-skilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We complete all background activities required to set up our products for students to purchase and experience several delivery options.
Our Continuing Education opportunities are typically scheduled during daytime and evenings to suit a diverse learner population. Our learners are mature, focused, and want to be challenged. 
 
The instructor's role is to professionally manage the learning process of the students and to ensure that students achieve established learning objectives to the maximum of their potential.  The instructor is to make use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies, to ensure student success.  The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a learning environment which is pedagogically sound, technically supported and innovative in nature.
 
Note: We are currently building our Adjunct Instructor talent pool  for potential contracts during the 2023-2024 Academic Year. Hours are not guaranteed; you will only be contacted if a teaching opportunity becomes available.  These opportunities may consist of Corporate Training Projects, International Projects as well as Continuing Education Courses.

RLOP 114 - Rail Car Safety and Securement
RLOP 130 - Rail Car Mover Operator
RREG 108 - Track Inspection Level I
RREG 109 - Track Inspection Level II
RREG 111 - Industrial Rail Audit
The Role

• Prepare and present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
• Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline
• Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
• Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
• Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
• Attend all SAIT training as required
• Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives
• Be an active and engaged member of the School
• Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
• Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors
• All other duties as required for the position

Qualifications

• Five years’ experience working as and with Rail Conductors
• A firm understanding of Codes and Regulations relating to inspection of rail systems, switching systems, language and culture within the rail community
• Hands-on experience in topics such as air braking, Canadian Rail Operating Rules, car and locomotive maintenance, dangerous goods, industrial railway operations, track maintenance and inspection, and safety management. 
• Ability to read and interpret curriculum relevant to the Rail Conductor Program
• Comfort using common computer platforms: Microsoft Office, MS Teams, Zoom
• Teaching or training experience is preferred.
• Excellent organizational and time management
