SAIT’s Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) focuses on non-credit programs supporting corporate training, the individual learner and international projects. We create courses and programs for life-long learning with careers at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to up-skilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We complete all background activities required to set up our products for students to purchase and experience several delivery options.
Our Corporate Training opportunities are typically scheduled during the daytime (i.e., Monday to Friday 8 am to 3 pm in short blocks) to suit a diverse learner population, ranging from students upgrading foreign credentials to those changing careers mid-life. Our learners are mature, focused, and want to be challenged. 
 
The instructor's role is to professionally manage the learning process of the students and to ensure that students achieve established learning objectives to the maximum of their potential.  The instructor is to make use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies, to ensure student success.  The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a learning environment which is pedagogically sound, technically supported and innovative in nature.

The Role
    • Collaboratively working with the Project Manager, this position requires knowledge and skills to instruct in the Heavy Equipment trades area. The most important component is a keen desire to teach and help students learn – we are a team, and we can support candidates in learning specific technologies and applications. 

    • The instructor will:
    • Present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
    • Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline
    • Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
    • Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
    • Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
    • Attend all SAIT training as required
    • Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives
    • Be an active and engaged member of the School
    • Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
    • Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors
    • All other duties as required for the position

Qualifications
    • Must hold an Alberta Heavy Equipment Technician Certificate of Apprenticeship and Proficiency or equivalent with interprovincial (Red Seal) status. 
    • Must have at least two (2) years’ experience as a Journeyperson in either off-road equipment and/or on-road vehicles or equivalent. 
    • Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated experience and are up to date with current technologies specifically in: diesel engines, electrical & electronics, air and hydraulic braking systems, and suspension systems.
    • Prior teaching or training experience in adult education is an asset
    • Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
    • Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams or Zoom)
    • Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
    • Comfortable speaking to the public
    • Positive & respectful attitude
    • Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to organize and present written information
