This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

This is a Term 12 position with an initial appointment of 2 years. Salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the Academic Teaching Staff (ATS) agreement .

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

Position 

The Department of Renewable Resources invites applications for a full-time (12 month) academic teaching staff (ATS, Assistant Lecturer) position in Environmental Sciences. The initial term will be 2 years (T12 full time), with the possibility of renewal, conditional on excellent annual performance reviews. We are specifically interested in individuals with expertise in environmental and conservation sciences, land reclamation, restoration ecology, or forest science.

Currently, the department has 27 faculty (16 full professors, 9 associate professors, and 2 assistant professors) and 3 faculty service officers. This ATS colleague will be a pivotal member of the departmental academic staff, focused on teaching primarily within the Environmental Sciences and Conservation Sciences program (ENCS) and Field Schools. 

Duties 

  • Teaching 6 courses over the fall and winter terms.
  • Teaching and organization of the 2 summer field school courses.
  • Administrative tasks at the discretion of the department chair.
  • Opportunity for involvement in the on-going research projects in the department.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree and expertise in environmental and conservation sciences, land reclamation, restoration ecology, or forest science.
  • A strong understanding of university pedagogy with a track record of teaching and a desire to build a university career that is focused on programs for student learning.
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate-level teaching and relevant teaching and student mentoring experience in classroom settings.
  • Expertise in program and policy development and evaluation is desirable.
