Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Mohkinstsis," which we now call the city of Calgary. The city of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation.

Mount Royal University's Faculty of Arts houses the following departments: Economics, Justice, and Policy Studies; English, Languages, and Cultures; Humanities; Interior Design; Psychology; General Education; and Sociology and Anthropology. The Faculty of Arts houses more than 2,000 students seeking degrees in Anthropology, Criminal Justice, English, History, Interior Design, Policy Studies, Psychology, and Sociology, and offers over 30,000 seats in Arts courses each year. In addition, the Faculty of Arts offers 26 minors over a diverse range of disciplines and teaches a large majority of courses associated with General Education foundation courses. Arts faculty have received national and international recognition for their teaching and research, hold Tri-Council grants, publish books, and disseminate research in top-ranked academic journals.

The Academic Support Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of advising on a one-to-one basis and for development of advising resources and publications that result in a continuous improvement of advising services. In addition, this position supports the Chair of General Education and department faculty with initiatives such as college degree partnerships, Learning Communities, field schools, events, and general education-related marketing communications.


Responsibilities
  • In collaboration and cooperation with central advising, organize and present advising  sessions for new and continuing students, individually or groups
  • Review transfer courses and credit assessments in consultation with Chair and Coordinators
  • Authorize course registration and withdrawal with Registrar’s Office
  • Assist with the selection and scheduling of courses to help students meet their educational goals
  • Provide students with policy, procedures and other information related to the University and university programs
  • In collaboration with other departments within Enrolment Services and across the university, develop student self-help resources and advising resources
  • Liaise with central and departmental advisors to keep them informed and current regarding curricular changes, new courses, policy developments, etc., in the general education provision
  • Act as the General Education key contact with degree partnerships, in consultation with the Chair
  • Support the planning and implementation of International exchange and field school programs
  • Organize open house and other marketing initiatives in conjunction with Academic Advising and University Advancement

Qualifications
  • Three or four year Bachelor Degree or equivalent, and 2 - 3 years of related experience
    • Formal experience in the post-secondary system is preferred
  • Capacity to interpret and apply policy in post-secondary environment
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent student service/public relation skills
  • Ability to prioritize work, make effective decisions and multi-task
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Comfort and experience with a range of computer applications

Salary:                       $49,774 - $63,004 per annum
