The Opportunity
The School of Hospitality and Tourism (H&T) is hiring an Academic Chair, Hospitality and Tourism Management Programs. This position reports to the Associate Dean and champions our hospitality and tourism management portfolio, including a diploma and bachelor degree. This portfolio offers year-round student intakes in several areas of industry focus (i.e. hotels; restaurants; events; beverage; travel and tourism; and entrepreneurship), serves ~800 students per year, leads ~15 faculty and actively engages with industry partners to ensure program alignment. There are three Academic Chairs who co-lead this portfolio to ensure success across this diverse spectrum. The School of Hospitality and Tourism is actively exploring satellite campuses and international partnerships which may require travel for the successful candidate.

Our commitment to immersive learning is absolute. Our faculty and students operate The Highwood Kitchen + Bar, Tastemarket Canadian Kitchen; Culinary Campus International Market, 4Nines Diner and Destinations Travel Centre. We also create and execute several events and work hand-in-hand with industry to provide our students with highly relevant experience such as practicums, internships and class project work.  
Working collaboratively with the school leadership team, faculty, staff, SAIT community and industry, you will help us on our journey to become recognized as one of the world’s preeminent schools in hospitality, tourism and culinary arts education. Student success is the bedrock of our success, and as such you will be a champion of student experience, program excellence and innovation.  You will strive for operational excellence by both challenging and championing how we do things. You will lead, mentor and support faculty, seeking out opportunities to unleash their passion and capability. You will help share, celebrate and amplify our never-ending and passion-filled journey to excellence. You will help cultivate an environment of inclusion that creates a sense of belonging for all faculty, staff and students.  
The Role
    • Planning, Strategy and Operational Management (20%)
    • Collaborate with the leadership team and other stakeholders as appropriate to help create and drive program strategy.
    • Support the various operational requirements related to program management (i.e. scheduling; budgets; reporting; enrollment management; talent recruitment and onboarding; data analysis; managing KPI’s; application of the collective agreement; committee membership; student conduct procedures; executing SAIT policy; etc).

    • Program Excellence and Innovation (20%)
    • Champion a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
    • Lead new course/program development and execution.
    • Seek out data, best practice and collaboration to inspire our strategic direction and advance our practice of learning.

    • Student Success and Experience (20%)
    • Champion and support opportunities to enhance and enrich student experience throughout their time with us.
    • In collaboration with the Academic Advising team, engage and mentor students throughout their journey.
    • Build an inclusive learning community where diversity is encouraged and harnessed to enhance educational experience

    • Industry Engagement (20%)
    • Actively engage with industry to ensure program alignment and continuous improvement.
    • Nurture relationships to support school strategic priorities and vision.

    • Faculty Leadership and Mentorship (20%)
    • Provide leadership, mentorship and support to faculty, unleashing their passion and capability to drive program, course and student success.
    • Support professional development that helps maintain industry relevancy, while advancing excellence in teaching practice.
    • Nurture a culture of inclusion, community, respect, professionalism and excellence.

Qualifications & Experience
    • Minimum
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (hospitality/tourism management or business management)
    • 5+ years of relevant leadership experience
    • 10+ years of relevant experience in hospitality and tourism 
    • Combination of relevant work experience and education may be considered

    • Preferred
    • Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree in related field 
    • Preference will be given to candidates with teaching or leadership experience in a post-secondary environment
    • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in curriculum development 
    • Prior experience working at SAIT is an asset

Salary Range: $120,000 - $128,000
Hours Per Week: 37.5
