Offer Description

The project aims to apply artificial intelligence (AI) to map agricultural plastic in remote sensing images. The fellow will work within the scope of the Plasticulture Engineering Center, an Engineering Research Center (ERC) set by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and Braskem with the State University of Campinas's Interdisciplinary Center for Energy Planning (NIPE-UNICAMP) in Brazil as its host institution.

Activities include:

- Systematic literature review and various analyses;
- Interface with companies and stakeholders in the plastic and recycling chain;
- Participation in conferences and academic and plasticulture sector events;
- Development and testing of machine learning models to map plastic structures in crops, as well as the automation and expansion of these models;
 Co-supervision of undergraduate research students;
- Spatial analyses and development of reverse logistics, location-allocation, and routing models;
- Writing reports, manuscripts, and articles.

Requirements:

- PhD in Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, or related fields;
- Advanced English;
- Advanced programming skills (Python, JavaScript, R), including image processing, machine learning, and scientific and data visualization libraries;
- Solid knowledge in agriculture, logistics, and geoprocessing (GIS and geographic databases);
- Knowledge of machine learning applied to remote sensing data.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 9,047.40 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
