Offer Description

A post-doctoral position is available to work in the Laboratory of Biomolecular Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy within the Research, Innovation, and Dissemination Centre B³ (Biology of Bacteria and Bacteriophages), one of the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Centers (RIDCs) supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in São Paulo state, Brazil.

Type IV Secretion Systems (T4SSs) are formed by a set conserved subunits, which are structurally arranged in two large subassemblies: the outer membrane core complex (OMCC) and the inner membrane complex (IMC). The T4SS of Xanthomonas citri (T4SSXAC) is an effector translocator system that is specialized in the secretion of toxins that kill other gram-negative bacteria. The OMCC may be divided in an inner layer (I-layer) and an outer layer (O-layer). Surprisingly, very few interactions between these two layers were observed, suggesting that they may display independent motions. To shed light on the T4SS functioning mechanism, we will investigate the dynamics of T4SS, intrinsically disordered regions will be characterized using NMR spectroscopy in combination with computer simulations.

The successful candidate will be a motivated individual, holding a PhD in structural biology or related areas and experience in protein NMR spectroscopy or MD simulations. Prior experience in molecular cloning, protein expression and purification is not required but it will be a plus.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 9,047.40 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
