The Department of Biochemical Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Engineering is looking for a full-time (100%) senior researcher in the field of Industrial Biotechnology. Industrial Biotechnology is the application of microorganisms or enzymes to produce chemicals.

Position

  • You carry out research in the framework of the WODCA project (waste oils to long-chain dicarboxylic acids) and support the operation of the BioWAVE research group.
  • You help coordinate project applications as a follow-up to the WODCA project.
  • You co-supervise PhD students and other team members within the WODCA project.
  • You are involved in service provision: you represent the research group both internally and externally.

Profile

  • You are an industrial engineer in biochemistry or bioengineering or equivalent, and obtained a PhD on thesis at the latest at the time of appointment.
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies .
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision .
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • You can speak and write fluently in English and also express yourself in Dutch.
  • You have experience in research in Industrial Biotechnology. Preferably, you have experience working with bioreactors, using analytical techniques for monitoring and programming in Matlab.

What we offer

  • We offer a full-time contract as a senior researcher until 31/3/2026.
  • Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale  for a principal research fellow in the Contract Research Staff category (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will receive ecocheques, a group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • The planned start date is July 1st  or as soon as possible.
  • You will do most of your work at Campus Groenenborger in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
