YOUR TASKS

You will join a growing team in the Department of Geography of UGent working on urban mobility and will support activities funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), co-funded by the European Union. In particular, tasks for this job position include providing assistance to the Head of the EIT Master School (MS) in Urban Mobility, and help coordinate MS activities, including (but not limited to) organizing and hosting coordination meetings with partners from various European Universities, managing communications with an extended global network of educational and research partners working on urban mobility in Europe (and beyond), helping update the MS curriculum of courses and educational activities, supporting the establishment of an EIT Urban Mobility academic advisory board, shaping plans for educational and research activities on sustainable and innovative solutions for urban mobility, and supporting the organization of summer schools and other events for students at UGent and in other locations.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You hold a Master’s degree (thesis to be completed by Spring 2024), preferably in urban mobility or related topics, e.g. transport engineering, urban and regional planning, geography, economics. Working language for this position is English. Other qualifications for this position include:

  • Excellent organization and communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and multidisciplinary extended team of colleagues, spread overall multiple partner universities in Europe;
  • Proficiency with MS Office software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English (both written and spoken);
  • Some knowledge of Flemish (while not needed) could be desirable for easier coordination with local partners;
  • Strong motivation to work on topics related to environmental sustainability and technological innovation in urban mobility;
  • Commitment to contributing to the betterment of society, through improving educational processes and shaping students’ future careers, promoting the decarbonization of transport options and human activities, increasing diversity and equity in society;
  • Previous experience working with students and academic institutions would be useful, but not required;
  • Previous experience working on data collection methods, including online surveys, focus groups, in-depth interviews, and other engagement strategies, analysis of data on individual choices, motivations, attitudes and preferences would be useful, but not required.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period of six months (50% time).
  • Your contract will start on 18/03/2024 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales .
