2 - Position description

The Faculty Social Sciences & Solvay Business School, Department Applied Economics, is looking for a full-time professor. 

 

More concretely your work package contains: 

 

Education and Research domain:

 

 

Microeconomics.

 

 

Education tasks:

 

 

• You are responsible for teaching courses at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Solvay Business School for an equivalent of 24 ECTS per academic year in the fields of microeconomics. The subject package comes from the following (indicative) list: Microeconomics (6 ECTS - EN), Microeconomics (6 ECTS - ENG), Business economics (6 ECTS - EN), Business economics of non-profit organisations (6 ECTS - EN);
• You supervise bachelor’s and master’s theses in this domain;
• You are open to teaching in evening classes;
• You continuously strengthen your pedagogical approach via educational professionalisation and teaching innovation.

 

 

Research tasks:

 

 

• You conduct research in the domain of microeconomics;
• Your research contributes to the work of the department and/or research group;
• You engage in the activities of the research group and/or department and you actively contribute (where relevant) to joint research work in addition to your own research output;
• You supervise PhD students;
• You acquire external (research) funds.

 

 

Other tasks:

 

 

• You take up service tasks at the level of the research group, the department, the faculty and/or the university;
• You develop and maintain an international network for the benefit of the faculty in the field of education and research;
• You contribute to creating external visibility for the research group, the department, the faculty and the university.

 

 

For this function, our Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene) will serve as your home base. 

3 - Profile

What do we expect from you?

 

 

 

 

 

• You have a good research record with internationally refereed publications;
• You have strong pedagogical qualities;
• You master Dutch and English at level C1;
• You preferably have relevant teaching experience with positive evaluations;
• You preferably have a track record in submitting and/or successfully acquiring external research grants, ranging from basic to more applied research;
• You preferably have experience in carrying out applied research assignments for national or European authorities;
• You preferably have experience in writing and submitting (successful) project applications;
• You preferably have a collegial and constructive attitude and experience with teamwork
• You preferably have good communication and leadership skills.

• Every first appointment is dependent upon the successful delivery of a teaching session.  

 

• Language regulations:

A member of the academic staff who is entrusted with a teaching assignment must also be able to demonstrate that the language of instruction is known at ERK level C1 through a qualification certificate or through an adequate diploma. The VUB also provides courses in, for example, academic English.

 

The administrative language of the VUB is Dutch. In case of insufficient knowledge of Dutch, the VUB will provide an integration course. After a maximum of five years, a member of the academic staff must demonstrate adequate knowledge of the administrative language (ERK level B2).

4 - Offer

Are you going to be our new colleague?

 

You’ll be offered an appointment as full-time professor, with planned starting date 01/10/2024. 

 

• If the recruitment is in the rank of lecturer, you'll be offered a tenure track appointment, which implies an initial appointment as lecturer for a period of 5 years, with eligibility for tenure in the rank of senior lecturer by the end of this initial period. 

 

• If the recruitment is in another academic rank, you'll be offered an appointment for 3 years, with eligibility for tenure in the same rank by the end of this initial period.
   

You’ll receive a salary linked to one of the scales set by the government.
