Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Brussels Center for Immunology (BCIM) is an inter-faculty research group at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), composed of the teams of Prof. Jo Van Ginderachter, Prof. Damya Laoui and Prof. Stefan Magez at the Faculty of Sciences and Bio-engineering Sciences on the Etterbeek campus and Prof. Kiavash Movahedi at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy on the Jette campus. The teams of Jo Van Ginderachter and Damya Laoui are also affiliated with the VIB Center for Inflammation Research.

In line with the research focus of the group leaders, our BCIM research is focused on the related themes of Myeloid Cell Immunology (Van Ginderachter lab), Dendritic Cell Biology and Cancer Immunotherapy (Laoui lab), Immunoparasitology (Magez lab) and Brain and Systems Immunology (Movahedi lab). BCIM’s research is based on employing cutting-edge molecular and genetic technologies, including single-cell multi-omic analyses, genome engineering and stem cell technology, the generation of novel transgenic mouse strains and the strategic exploitation of camelid-derived single domain antibody fragments (nanobodies) as exquisite tools for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in various immunology-related diseases.

To strengthen our team, we are looking for a full-time (m/f) Technology and Data Manager, with a main focus on the subdomain of single-cell and spatial omics. The selected candidate will manage the collection of cutting-edge single-cell and spatial omics technology equipment and data that was acquired by the research group in the past years, as well as scrutinize novel technologies.

Function description
  • In your position as Technology and Data Manager, your main task is to work with and manage our cutting-edge single-cell and spatial omics infrastructure and related equipment, which includes an Akoya Phenocycler-Fusion spatial profiling platform, 10X Genomics Chromium X, BD Symphony multi-color flow cytometer, 5-laser Cytek spectral cell sorter and flow cytometer,Cytation C10 confocal imaging reader, MARS accoustic cell separation system, ….
  • As a technology specialist, you will manage the equipment and develop and implement new research pipelines and assays that will be made available to all BCIM team members. You will also train new users and provide support for publications and grant applications in which these technologies are included.
  • About 10% of the Technology and Data Manager’s time should be dedicated to scouting for new innovative technologies (Tech Watch).
  • About 10% of your time will be dedicated to coordinating the lab’s data management and the required supporting ICT infrastructure.
  • Since the equipment is partly located on the Etterbeek campus and partly on the Jette campus, the Technology and Data Manager is expected to be physically present on both campuses. An initially anticipated time division is two days per week in Etterbeek, two days per week in Jette and one flexible day per week that could be dedicated to working from home for data analysis or off-site for Tech Watch purposes.

Your profile
  • You have a PhD in Sciences, Medical Sciences, Bio-engineering Sciences or equivalent relevant discipline.
  • You have hands-on experience with single-cell omics and/or spatial transcriptomics as well as with the associated data analysis;
  • You have affinity for data management and ICT management.
  • You are quality-oriented, honest, creative and collaborative.
  • Due to the national and international context of the research group, a fluent active knowledge of English is necessary. A good knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
